Dr Stephen Drysdale

Dr Stephen Drysdale is the Clinical Director and Chief Executive Officer at Abercorn Clinic. With over two decades of experience in therapeutic care and education, Stephen is a passionate advocate for fostering secure attachments and resilience.

Holding a Doctorate in Forensic Psychology from the University of Nottingham, Stephen’s academic and clinical work is deeply informed by his doctoral thesis on the impact of childhood trauma. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of St Andrews and his MSc in Forensic Psychology from Glasgow Caledonian University. Stephen is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). His vision is rooted in the belief that shared positive experiences and a stable, nurturing environment are fundamental to successful therapeutic outcomes.

Beyond his leadership at Abercorn Clinic, Stephen is dedicated to advancing the sector as a whole. He serves as a Trustee for Scottish Attachment in Action and on the Management Committee for Educating through Care Scotland, roles that allow him to champion the needs of children and young people with additional support needs. Stephen is also an honorary lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he shares his expertise with the next generation of psychology and social care professionals.
