Bob brings extensive experience to Abercorn Clinic, offering a depth of expertise in Assessment, Consultancy, and the development of Evidence-based practice. His career is defined by a commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable populations through a rigorous Psychological Framework and Staff Development.
Educated across the Universities of Strathclyde, Dundee, and Glasgow, Bob began his professional journey as a Teacher in 1971. His transition into Psychology saw him appointed as an Educational Psychologist for Perth and Kinross (later Tayside Region) in 1974, marking the start of a half-century dedicated to the Psychological well-being of Young People and Families in Scotland.
In 1976, Bob took on a senior role within the Scottish List D Schools (Northern Area), which evolved into the Child Care Psychology Service in 1987. Since 1997, he has operated as an Independent Consultant spending the last three decades working with a number of Residential Schools in Scotland and Ireland. His work has spanned the full clinical spectrum: from complex Diagnostic Assessments and Direct Treatment to high-level Staff Training and Organisational Consultancy.
Bob is a strong advocate of Clinical Monitoring and Quality Assurance and particularly so following an inquisitive attendance to the Second annual What Works at Salford University in 1994.. He is currently at the forefront of developing external monitoring systems for Residential settings, most notably through the “What Works Programme” which seeks to elevate Residential Practice by ensuring all aspects of Care and Education are rooted in a robust Evidence-based framework.
Bob has played a central role in the development of Clinical Monitoring systems and Evidence-Based practice frameworks. At Abercorn, his work is focused on the delivery of comprehensive Psychological and Educational assessments. He works directly with staff to provide clinical oversight and guidance, ensuring that the placement of every Young Person across MHG services is informed by a robust and professional understanding of their specific Psychological Needs.
As a dual Chartered Educational and Forensic Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Bob’s practice adheres to the highest ethical standards. His “unique” ability to bridge Educational and Forensic Psychology makes him a vital asset to the Abercorn multidisciplinary team.
